Never Too Rigid

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim

Muslim A: Are u fasting?

Muslim B: Yes I am, why?

Muslim A: Owh no nothing. Just asking. [cover his nose with his two hands]

-------

Ramadhan month

non-Muslim A: I hate to talk to the Muslims in the fasting month.

non-Muslim B: Why ey?

A Muslim passed by and say hye to both of them.

Muslim: Hello girls (: How're u?

non-Muslims [look at each other, covering nose with hands]

Muslim: Why?. My mouth smelly ey?.

---------

Who says we cannot brush our teeth when we are fasting?

Who? Who?

Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah's Apostle said, "Fasting is a shield (or a screen or a shelter). So, the person observing fasting should avoid sexual relation with his wife and should not behave foolishly and impudently, and if somebody fights with him or abuses him, he should tell him twice, 'I am fasting." The Prophet added, "By Him in Whose Hands my soul is, the smell coming out from the mouth of a fasting person is better in the sight of Allah than the smell of musk. (Allah says about the fasting person), 'He has left his food, drink and desires for My sake. The fast is for Me. So I will reward (the fasting person) for it and the reward of good deeds is multiplied ten times."

Yes, I could not deny that the hadith really exists. However, it never stated that a Muslim is prohibited from brushing teeth when fasting, and it did not say that a Muslim SHOULD keep his mouth smelly when they are fasting.

What about another hadith of the Prophet pbuh pertaining to tooth stick?.

Hudhaifah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported: Whenever Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) got up for Tahajjud (Voluntary Night) Prayer, he cleansed his mouth with the tooth-stick.

And another stronger hadith in objection of the 'created fact' of the issue of prohibition of brushing teeth when fasting.

Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported: The Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: Were it not that I might over-burden the believers and in the hadith transmitted by Zuhair "my people" I would have ordered them to use tooth-stick at every time of the Prayer.

Is your mouth smelly?.So, people..lets brush our teeth hehehe.

this issue was pointed out by Dr. Asri (ex-Perlis's mufti) in his recent posting.
If u read book of hadith in Fadhail Amal in Fadhilat Ramadhan chapter, this issue was discussed long time ago by Maulana Zakariya maybe during 1349 hijrah went he wrote the kitab. He died in 1402 (1982) at Jannatul-Baqi Ahlul Bait Madinah.
Fadhail Amal is one of the book that always used in taklim (reading hadith and quran) session for dakwah movement in which people call it tabligh.
But, it's good to repeat it by anybody including Dr. Asri.
I've done with this issues right after involved with usaha iman amal.

Its true that Maulana Zakariya ra. discussed this issue in his Fadhail. However, Ibn hajjar al asqalani a great shafie scholar Ra (1372-1449)discuss this in his talkhis al habeer in the medieval period. He made a commentary on Sahih Bukhary called Fathul Bari.

The smell is due to ketone bodies produced when we fast.

I wonder does brushing teeth helps?

Dear azrool, alhamdulillah.
actually, that fadhail amal consists of at least 84 great kitabs for references including fathul bari (by Abu Fadhl Ahmad Bin
Ali Bin Hajar Asqolani). Among other all the sunnan (abu Daud, tirmidzi, Ibnu Majah, muslim, bukhari...) also tanbihul ghafilin by Samaqardi, muwatta' by Imam Malik, ihya by ghazali...other great scholars.. etc), but fadhail is not a book of fiqh although maulana is well verse of fiqh.
When the word 'discuss' used (in my previous comment), what i mean, maulana discussed the subject also refering to the great books.
Mazhab Hanafi hold that point of views of brushing (bersugi) during fasting, and those who in wahabi (people who follow muhammad abdul wahab's views and that muhammad abdul wahab follow most Ibn Taimiyah's view, and that Ibnu Taimiyah always agree to Imam Malik's view) also will find it the same like Hanafi in this issue. Also discuss in hanafi that smell is from empty stomach, not merely brushing teeth.
But in mazhab Syafie, 'bersugi selepas tergelincir matahari adalah makruh'. B'coz Msia is Syafie, maybe that's why the subject always closed and not many malays want to argue it like what Dr. Asri did in which not in line with syafie. but that is nothing new in the world of fiqh and some considered it as furuk (cabang bukan soal pokok).
Anyway, thanks and i appreciate your comment. (ehh macam blog saya pula..pjg berjela hehe)
Saya mungkin silap, anda mungkin betul. Wallahu alam.

Alhamdulillah, btw why did you have to use the word wahabi, the brits use this term to confuse the muslims. The deobandies were label as "wahabies". In malaysia if you dont agree with the local imam in the masjid they label u as a wahabi as if following Shaykh ul Islam Muhammad Bin Abdul Wahab is a bad thing. Brits have done their job well divide and conquer. Wallahu'alam

Salam Azrool,
Name Wahabi is not given by brit, but instead given by ulama dan muslim society during muhammad abdul wahab time and after that.
Previously the disciples not comfortable with it, and want to be called as Din al-Islam, Muslimun, al-muwahidun (pejuang tauhid), al-dakwah al-Salafiyah. But after certain period of time they dont mind if people call wahabi.
Some ulama also call them as al-mubtadia'ah (golongan mengada-adakan), al-mulahidah and even khawarij.
But name kharawij is far from truth bcoz, wahabi accept all companions of Muhammad SAW.
Vast majoriti ulama agree that wahabi is ahli sunnah wal jamaah bcoz in fiqh they always agree with mazhab Maliki.
But ulamas said, the problem of wahabi is that their disciple thought only the opinion of their ulama are true and can be accepted, whereas others (hambali, hanafi, shafie) often see as incomplete, incompatible.
The sad point is that, when they argue, they'll critised other mazhab too much, excessive, to the extend to always down grade ulama from other mazhab eventhough is only a furuk issue.
In present time, for example, asri qoute few shafie's point of agruement as 'pelik'... etc.
In contrast, Maliki, hanbali, hanafi and syafie always tolerate with other's view by saying 'this is what i think is best but if anybody get better view which is differ, then it's up to them'. The 4 imams always maintain their open minded.
---sorry it's to long, maybe i'll write about this in my blog later.
wallahualam.

Yang tak puasa pun ramai yg busuk juga.

Sbb Islam dilihat sesuatu yg terlalu ideal. Maka 'keburukan' sebesar kuman pun nampak macam sebesar lautan. Tapi kalau yg puasa/busuk tu pengikut Reggae atau omputih, orang takkan kata apa2 pun (walaupun dah busuk tahap tong sampah)...

Bersugi tak pe. Tapi guna ubat gigi tak leh sebab ianya sejenis "ain". Gosok gigi guna ubat gigi akan batalkan puasa. Demikianlah ulasan ulama syafieyah.
Bukan semua "ustaz" tahu semua benda. Tanya orang yang benar-benar tahu.
Anyway sama juga dengan blogging. Bayangkan kalau kita tulis sesuatu yang salah dan orang amalkan...

mungkin rmi yg de keliru ttng ni termsk jgk awk.hmm..jd sy try mntk pndpt dr ustaz azhar idrus ttng persoalan ini.beliau mmg dikenali sbgi uztaz yg memperjuangkn pndpt2 ulama dahulu kala termasuk pndpt dr mazhab syafie, hambali dll yg muktabar.sdngkn bks mufti perlis pula bnyk x bersetuju dngn pndpt yg dahulunya sbb menurut pndptnye manusia x maksum jd mungkin ada silapnya dlm mengeluarkn hukum...try tngk ceramah2nye ustaz azhar kt youtube.mmg best.hehe..
